Definition:A process which occurs during viral translation, which involves a translational recoding mechanism called programmed ribosomal frameshifting. This causes the ribosome to alter its reading of the mRNA to an a different open reading frame to produce alternate viral proteins.
Comment:This term is intended to annotate gene products involved in the process of viral translational frameshifting, not viral proteins produced by this translation process.
Synonyms:exact_synonym: ribosomal frameshifting involved in viral translation
