Accession:MP:0009373 term browser browse the term
Definition:anomaly in the ability of the cumulus cells to synthesize and accumulate hyaluronan into an extracellular matrix (ECM), which provides an essential microenvironment for oocyte fertilization; this expanded ECM binds the oocyte and the cumulus cells together, protects the oocyte from the proteolytic and mechanical stresses during extrusion, and allows sperm binding, penetration, and fertilization
Synonyms:exact_synonym: abnormal ovarian cumulus expansion;   abnormal ovarian cumulus growth
