Definition:Trypanosoma cruzi is the causative agent of the Chagas disease, also known as the American trypanosomiasis, as it occurs primarily in poor areas of the Americas, mostly Central and South America. Infection interferes with a number of intracellular pathways and it appears to activate calcium signaling.
