Definition:The pathway of codeine/morphine-target interaction and of the biochemical or physiological responses to drug. The drugs are potential ligands for the mu-opioid receptor, a class of opioid receptor. Opioid receptors are G-protein coupled receptors (GPCR) activated by endogenous and also exogenous opioids. Genetic variations can cause differences in the response of the organism to the drug.
