Techniques often used include comparison of body weight inside and outside of water or a ratio of body volume and weight. Common formulas include body density equal to body weight divided by body volume minus residual lung volume or body density equal to body weight divided by the dividend of body weight minus water weight divided by the density of water minus residual lung volume.
