Gene: LOC106736463 (C4a androgen-responsive enhancer) Mus musculus
Symbol: LOC106736463
Name: C4a androgen-responsive enhancer
CRRD ID: 39130655
Description: This region contains an androgen-sensitive enhancer element that regulates sex-limited expression of the C4a (complement component 4A (Rodgers blood group)) gene, also known as Slp. This sequence corresponds to a DNase I hypersensitive site and is derived from an endogenous retroviral long terminal repeat (LTR). This LTR is not present upstream of the paralogous C4b gene or in primate homologs, which are not sex-limited. It therefore represents an example of retroelement exaptation resulting in differentiation of expression. This element binds the androgen receptor and nuclear receptor subfamily 3, group C, member 1, and is further modulated through association of several additional transcription factors, including runt related transcription factor 2 (Runx2) and regulator of sex limited protein 1 (Rsl1).
